The AIT Athletics Club is located in Athlone, Co.Westmeath, Ireland and provides a top quality athletics club for adult and juvenile athletes. We are very fortunate to be able to avail of the wonderful new International Indoor arena and have also access to the 400 meters outdoor track and cross-country route all situated in the grounds of the AIT. We have a friendly group of trained coaches who ensure that both the leisure, competitive and elite athletes are catered for.

Our adult club has been around for a few years and our dynamic juvenile club has been in existance since 2014. The FIT4LIFE program has proven to be a great success over the last few years with many of our FIT4LIFE athletes progressing on to become full-blown regular members of our adult AC.

All Ireland Cross Country.

The Irish Life Health Juvenile Un-even Age XC Championships  took place on Sunday the 11th December at the Dundalk I.T. We had one athlete in action in Dundalk. Lisa Gavin who is still aged only 14 had qualified in the Girls Under 17 4000 meters race. It was a dry and pleasant day for running and the course was in excellent condition. There was a few challenging hills on the course to test the athletes but all in all it would be considered a quite fast CC course. Lisa ran a very solid race and finished in 61st place, this was the All Irelands and every girl had qualified through their County and Province so the standard was extremely high. To finish 61st from a field of 106 was a very respectable performance for Lisa at this age grade. She helped the Westmeath County team to an unlucky 4th place finish in the team event, just 5 points behind Cork. Maeve Dervin from Roscommon AC ran a fine race to finish in 27th place in the same race.

Lisa was also presented with the All Ireland silver Westmeath team medal which she won a few weeks ago in the U16 Age grade, it didn’t look at all out of place around her neck so we can be sure that it won’t be the last !
